The "personalised number plate included", AXB9S, sounds familiar: http://www.ukbeg.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=18942

this bloke is a tard :headbang: , you can not sell the reg on a cat B bike as the bike is break only and the reg will die with the written off frame all other bits are ok as they have no legal title

That can't be right :?

If you had a ridiculously expensive plate on a bike/car and it got written off, you don't just lose the rights to the plate?

Doesn't the vehicle have to have an MOT to transfer the plate?

I always remember a guy that used to fill up with fuel in the Esso garage where I worked. He made money selling the registration numbers off old bikes and used to have to get them in an MOTable state.

I think it does have to have an MOT but I don't see how that can be the case.

An extreme example. You have an expensive plate, you're on your way to get it MOT'd as it runs out tomorrow, some donut knocks you off writing off your bike and putting you in hospital for a week. So now you have a written off bike which has run out of MOT, is un-MOTable and you've lost your expensive number plate/load of cash :?

you can only transfer a registration from a bike or car with a mot you can not mot a cat B bike as it is break only , and the V 5 is destroyed the number plate is linked to the frame title and as the frame is break only it is dead as a dodo caput deceased no more the end

So, as above, I'd lose my £10million investment?

It would be an ex-number plate...

That's the risk you take on a non-MOTed vehicle on the way for an MOT... Best to get your MOT 'done' at the pub... :D

Mot or not at the time of the accident, surely the moment it becomes cat b any remaining mot becomes void anyway? But would you be able to claim on insurance for the value of the lost plate?

You can get the number plate back.

They like it to have a valid MOT as when you send the MOT in the info gets changed and a new certificate printed out. It also has to be taxed, OR, no gap between tax running out and being SORN'd.

Send a letter, write and email, phonecall, if you have a reasonable excuse thy will put it onto retention.

As long as it has been on the road MOT'd and taxed within the last year you can retain it.
I know this as Anna's car failed the MOT and although the stupid cow at the DVLA told me the car had to be MOT's to transfer the plate I found out online that it didn't need to be so applied to have it retained and was succesful.

I'm not sure when it's a cat b though.
