I also learned over the weekend than not all torque wrenches are equal - the 3 I have that I thought were "decent" (paid near £100 for two of them) dont handle LH threads - they dont click !

So had to borrow one from my mechanic nephew - the "spud" pushes through the head, so voila, you can do up LH threads to correct torque - so front wheel axle is torqued correctly !!

Eric.

The Majority of torque wrenches don't do left hand threads , people tend to get confused by the fact they have reversible ratchets on them but that is a totally different thing. Like you found out you need one where the square drive pushes through the ratchet head OR like the Beta ones where the complete removable head spins around on the handle. advantage of those is that thhe head can be swapped for an open ended spanner attachment to torque up in confined spaces .

Yeah Kev, I think the VAST majority of them dont do LH threads. Its not great as they will tighten up and not stop or click so potentially shred some bearings !!

The one I got off the nephew was an older 1/2" drive Norbar that he was given as a present about 25+ years ago when he first qualified, so treasured and I was privileged to be given it....came all the way from a very nice uncle of his living in the UK originally !

I see the current Halfords Advanced Torque Wrench Model 100 does both threads - it was going to be an impulse buy until the nephew came up trumps !!

Eric.

No just left hand threaded.
