True enough I guess, but the weather can get pretty shitty in NZ the further south you go.

Its alright here Nutah. When the time comes for us to return it will be difficult. There is so much to do here! The 2 countries are very similar but there is no one in NZ, which is nice but it does reduce some of the really cool things available in the UK..not to mention the continent just over the creek. :old: :)

Thanks for the replies. Good shout about having room for gear in the tent. So obvious, but I didn't consider how small a one man would be.

The pillion seat on XB12 is tiny so was thinking of a small tent.

How do you guys attach things to the bike? Just a load of bungee cords? Can anyone explain the best method / places for securing gear to the bike?

Just don't get lulled into thinking your stuff is safe in a tent. Not exactly difficult to break into one

I bought a Gelert Rocky 2 tent for when I travelled to Belgium for the Lauwe weekend back in 2009. The tent was plenty big enough for me and has a small porch for boots etc. I kept all my stuff inside the main part of the tent as on my own.

I took the tent out of its bag and refolded it to fit into my top bag together with bike lock and other odds and sods. Surprising how roomy that top bag is when extended. I put my sleeping bag, pillow and waterproofs in one side pannier and my clothes etc in the other. Worked fine for a weekend away. You could always carry a rucksack as well if needed. :yup:

I put our clothes and stuff into a roll top waterproof bag then into one of those packsafe stainless steel mesh security bags, leave the bag in the tent porch and park the bike close up to the tent and fasten the packsafe through the bikes rear wheel ;) we also have a pair of pacsafe lidsafe bags these are great for keeping your helmet dry and also securing them to your bike, the stainless mesh prevents people cutting the bags and taking out the contents.

Bungee cords are the devils work, my son nearly lost an eye with one.

For my Firebolt/1125 I took a seatplate and mounted 4 eyes to attach some fasteners.

Same happened to my mate putting stuff on a roof rack. I'm very cautious when I use them now!

Same thing , my boy was strapping a radiator to a roof rack. Makes me cringe just thinking of it.
