Wanted - S1/X1 fuel filler cap. (just the middle bit, not the flange)
Condition not important, as long as it's fully functional.

Thanks in anticipation...........

EDIT: An M2 cap would probably do just fine as well ;)

What have you got against a bit of flange :?:  lOl lOl

IIRC the filler caps are actually made in the UK, so there may be some mileage in looking for alternatives. I'll pull the cap off one of mine and look for a manufacturers mark. How desperate are you for one? If it's stopping you getting your bike on the road for this nice weather, you might be able to borrow one ;) lOl

From memory only.... (do I get the 'nerd of the week' award?) - Newton Equipment, E11. http://www.newton-equipment.com/index.html Check out their Aero range.

I seem to remember that Buell switched having them made elsewhere on the later tubers. They seem to have distributors/dealers all over the country.

HTH.

As far as I can work out, the the earlier Tubers (up to '99/the introduction of the revised frame models) were equipped with Newton fillers, later ones used Taiwanese copies.
The earlier Newton caps will fit straight onto the later flange without any problems and the moving parts seem to be identical to the later offerings. Newton also supply spare parts for their fillers, an option not available from HD.

I have already priced up a replacement cap from Harley and plan to do likewise with Newton tomorrow morning. At the same time, I can find out if the part I actually need is not only available from Newton, but a cheaper alternative than buying a whole new cap from HD.

Visually, my cap is fine, but the flats for the central operating pin have worn away in the plastic/composite internal mechanism. If it is viable and I cannot source a replcement cap through UKBeg, I intend to replace just this part with a repalcement from Newton.

Thanks for the offer, Adam, but everything's in hand.

FWIW, Buell's Newton cap seems to be the Aero 400.

Which makes Newton's statement on their website all the more appropriate...

Warning - Copies!

A number of people like our Aero cap design so much that they have copied it. There are several of these copies of Newton Equipment Aero caps on the market. These copies are not made from the same quality materials that Newton Equipment Aero caps are made from and are not subjected to the same level of safety and quality checks that Newton Equipment Aero caps must comply to. Don't settle for a second rate copy, only an original Newton Equipment Aero cap is finished to, and perform to the high standards for which we are justly famous

Remind me, when did the highly litigious HD bean-counters get their hands fully on Erik's business....
