Willie thorne , snooker player

About 1983/4 I had a mate that I regularly played snooker against 2/3 times a week, one day my mate suggested we went to Willie Thorne's in Leicester...we got there early (ish..bout 11 am) and Willie was there
He came over and we had a chat....after about 15 minutes my mate said "I wouldn't mind playing against you sometime"! (cheeky fucker), Willie replied with "set em up then...I'll be back in a minute"!...he came back cue in hand and let my mate break....I just ran around the table pulling balls out of the pockets for Willie

About 10 minutes later my mate was returning the favour....I think I visited the table 3 times before it was all over!

We finished off and went to pay for our session and we were told that Willie had enjoyed the games with us and that "the table was free for us on that session"
I was an absolute honour to meet (and play?) a true gentleman

:yt: It's such a great story and why I like pets more than people. I may have to read the book or see the movie now. Didn't know about them.

Well yeah. She inspired a whole country and kept "our lads" happy. MY father is 94 and was telling me today about how many people had a lot of affection for her after WW2. Lots of those "lads"grew old with good memories.

Don't forget she is also the oldest artist to have a number one album!
Fair play to the old girl...she kept the morale alive when the country needed something...who could we have now? (in the present crisis) Stormzy...Rita Ora...don't make me laugh!
