Captain Sir Tom

The Queen led tributes to Capt Sir Tom, "recognising the inspiration he provided for the whole nation and others across the world".

I understand there is a Nationwide 2 minutes silence this Sunday 11am as a mark of respect for Captain Sir Tom :worthy:

This seems, to me, very much like the Princess Diana hysteria. It actually deflects attention from the very real problems with the way the virus had been mishandled and the lack of beds and staff the NHS has compared to 10 years ago. It is a shame he died as he did, similar thoughts go to the other 100k plus, including a friend of mine, who have also died.
I think he was badly advised on the holiday trip unless he genuinely saw it as a last throw. The photos of him with various "celebrities", sportsmen etc with no masks or social distancing while on holiday goes against all current advice.

Agreed. It's sad that we lost Captain Sir Tom and he would surely have continued to do good things, but he reached a good age and lived a full life. :| I'm not sure if he would have wanted quite SO much fuss made about him, but the media can't resist going overboard for a hero.

Sir Tom may have had Covid in the end, but I thought that pneumonia led to this situation and his departing? Such is the way with many older people. How many are lucky enough to actually go to sleep simply from old age. :?

Whatever, rest in peace Sir Tom.
