I realise that many terrible things happen in the world that impact into our lives, whatever form that takes, and evil has been with us for ever.

As I get older, I try and take a perspective on what makes people tick, and the Christian in me tries to forgive.

But this made me sick to my stomach, and I am unable to comprehend how any human can do such a thing.

Not so long ago he'd probably have been "looked after" in an asylum before the days of care in the community let all sorts of mental cases loose on the streets

^^^^this.
When will they admit that this particular experiment has spectacularly failed.
Watch any of the 'Ambulance' type progs and see how much time/resources are wasted trying to prevent the lunatics from harming themselves (and others), whilst calls from genuinely needy patients with eg RTAs, strokes, heart attacks are stacking up.
I have come to the conclusion that we need to embark upon a nationwide asylum building program.

And many wonder why some of us prefer the company of animals over other humans. Animal welfare is my wife's and my thing and have volunteered, rescued and rehabbed the past 20 years. What I haven't done is work in the field. I'd have been in jail for life or on death row many years ago as I'd likely have tortured the hell out of the people who mistreat their pets (I guess you'd have to give a damn to consider them pets at all).

My idea of heaven is a few close friends (within an hour's riding distance) and family and being surrounded by critters on a few thousand acres of heavily wooded mountain property. Hopefully the little hedgehog will be there too.

Will they be doing electro-shock treatment and labotomies there?

...just so long as there are 12' walls and a big padlock on the front gate, they can do what they want. Oh, and no animals allowed inside, obviously.

We've been feeding a couple of hedgehogs since summer they're amusing little things it's beyond comprehension why someone would want to hurt one. I hope someone inside douses the bastard in boiling suger solution.

On a positive side.....We had a Hedgehog nest in our garden 3 years ago, we discovered it whilst tidying up under the ivy hedge and found we had taken the top covering off and we counted 3 tiny little hogs, so we put the top back on again and left them in peace.

A couple or 3 months later I would be out in the lorry and my wife would call me, telling me how many hedgehogs were venturing out that day and how the adult was making sure they were safe.....Then one day whilst at home I looked out of the window and saw 4 little ones and an adult scouting about in under the hedge and generally testing out the world....I would get regular updates when on the road, right up until they left the nest, that was a sad day, but at least we had seen 4 hedgehogs raised and leave....Proper good stuff and a privilege to see it to be honest, we left the nest for the next year, as we understood they may come back, but they did not.....I still cannot fathom just how they escaped the cat, but they did.

So fuck this person, there are more loving of hedgehogs than there are like this freak, thankfully....I am always half way up the wave.....The glass analogy leaves me cold as it is a construct of man.

You were fortunate Att. I have spoken with folk who have never had the privilege of seeing hoglets. We have been here for over 30 years, and last year was exceptional as we had two nests. Unfortunately the survival rate of the young is not always successful. This year, I have not been aware of any hedgehogs at all.
