Hi Chris and everyone,

We were looking at the afformentioned CR today, and discovered that if you diconect the sensor at the connector just under the gearbox pully there, you can carry on your journey unhindered!, this will of course illuminate the system fault light, but at least you can get to where you were headed!. You will need the 30T Torx key from the kit to remove the pully cover to get access, then replace the cover.
Something to remember for the future i think. Haven't tried it on an XB yet, but expect the same.

I know we have tried this on a Dyna before now and it still didn't run when in gear, so I assumed (wrongly :oooops: ) that it would be the same.
Sportsters will run when disconected also, I discovered today!.

Anyway, thought that snippet might be usefull to somebody at some time.

Regards, Jon

Bike did have a hiccup at i think about 25K was actually a small failure with the end breaking off a valve spring ....not enough to affect the running of the engine so don't know how long it had been broken, unfortunately the very small broken piece some how found it's way back to the oil pump, didn't cause any oil starvation problems as i switched off as soon as i heard the pump lock up, problem was when the pump locked it stripped its drive gear the debris then chipped a tooth on all four cam gears.......so replacement parts were cams and oil pump and valve springs. rest of the engine is all original............forgot we put new piston rings in as well while it was in bits.

offtopic - My firebolt9 broke after 55ish kmiles. Was a pretty hassle free and pleasurable 3 years motoring.

back on...
Good tip about pulling the sensor out - cheers Jon. I've found the prob may not be with a faulty switch, just the alignment/position of the bolt to the sensor. More detail here

Really something that shouldn't have annoyed me so much in hindsight. GODDAMMIT

My side stand switch failed today; managed to get the bike home by starting it on the stand and running with the stand down on a strait road putting it in second gear then flipping the stand up with my boot. I expect I was just lucky. Will phone them Tuesday, whats the chance they have a sensor in stock!.
