Having only recently changed to US spec gearing ( completed by & it was also his recommendation) I have found that yes at very, very low speeds it may well have made a difference. However, the real noticeable change is in the mid to top range roll on acceleration. The standard UK would never pull to the red line & as I have the race ecu with the increased revs it was pointless with out the US gearing. This is of course only my personal perception. But, it does without a doubt make it a better bike & possibly on of the better mods to undertake.

I swapped back from full US gearing to just the bigger pulley on the back. Riding an S1 with uk gearing at the moment and forgot how awkward it was.

Thanks for the input boys and girls, Im pretty sure my bike has US gearing as greenson who I got the bike brought it in from the US, as for the lumpy running I think the bike is running fine in town just doesnt like slow riding, I previously had a Ducai M900 monster and an S4 Monster and they were the same. Another point I have which also will probably answer the question about the gearing. Yesterday when I went out on the bike there is one bit of road that I know is safe and opened it up and it went great, this morning when I went to get the bike I noticed a drip from the carb , so I removed the float bowl in situ and gave the tang on the flot a wee tweak, it stopped the leak and when I went out on the bike it went fine, until I came to my wee bit of speed test road, I blasted the bike and it just touched the 6000 red line at about 115 mph then cut out so I would put it down to the float height, the book says 10.49mm to 11.51mm are these figures good, apart from that I forgot how much fun a twin is on a windy road.

Ignition module will hit the rev limit and cut at 6500- 7000 ish RPM depending on which module you have.
You need a Mikuni HSR 42-11 flat side carb......but then that bike needs LOADSA stuff !

The Mikuni is where I'd start, can't help with jetting but I'd give it as much gas as it can burn right through the range (screw the mileage) with a f**k off air filter to go with that exhaust but then that's just me all over.

Bike needs loads of stuff I had said earlier I was going to address the oil pump , engine mount and chain tensioner, I like the handling exhaust is Fine the brakes are good enough and it's fast enough for me apart from a better seat I don't really see what I need.the issue with the shock failing how many have failed has anyone on this site had one fail on them ? Just so I know what the risk is .I still think I have an issue with the float height the bike didn't cut in lower gears and when it cut I had to slow down and let the fuel catch up for a second classic fuel starvation I will set it to the book and retry so are these set with rev limiters I didn't notice.

Try not to lose heart when the bike turns into a money pit. They often do. But if you persevere and sort it out properly, you'll never want to sell it. And that's a good thing because you'll never get back anything like what you spent getting it properly right. Good luck.

Keep drive belt slack ,ecm has rev limiter (pushrod motors love limiters) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/99-Buell-Cyc ... SwstxU1~SI. Think about a new front disc with the better pads and have that type of rear shock on two of my bikes and does not bother me as I`m not expecting to wheelie a lot or carry fat birds/blokes/ladyboys/MPs.....

Thanks for that I read somewhere the rev limiter is set at 6800 I have no intention of revving my bike that high anyway, I have reset my float height, so hopefully that will sort my problem.

Well I'm not very technical but have been around Buell a long time, have a few in my garage and have read just about every word typed on here in the past twenty years.

I can't really explain how to sort things but I know what has worked for me and for many others.

As Maz says, fit a Mikuni HSR42, it won't give you any more power but transforms the ride and power delivery. You would benefit from a later disc (I would go with an EBC one if they're still available). If you can lay your hands on one the seat fitted to the S1W White Lightning is a major improvement. It's gel filled, has no strap and the raised area at the back is much shorter.

Your muffler will break, if you're lucky it won't drop under your back wheel or dig into the tarmac when it does. If you like it you could run with it and take a chance.

Changing the gear linkage to the later type fitted to 2001 X1s would also yield a big improvement in usability and looks.

Your chrome oil filter is a benefit because it's the longer one so holds a little more oil and probably makes a nominal difference to cooling.

Go and see Maz but take Magz for protection.

And it looks like you have a good bike there.
