She was sat in my office most of the afternoon, once we'd got back from the pub. 8-)

I'm sure you could rig up an summer season, oil-filled riding vest, connected to a 12v circulating pump and a fin-tube radiator, remote-mounted. Add a bleeder line in the hose to top off the bike from time to time...

Sorry, been reading about crazy German engineering projects too much.

That said, I remember following a Uly which was carrying some spare oil through southern France. The bottle pinged out of the bungee and headed off up the road through the middle of a town like we were overflying the Möhne reservoir.

:hehe: :hehe: :oooops:

Good memories ;)

Well, decided to top-up and leave the oil at home - all was well when I checked it on getting home last night. The stuff I did get under the seat got seriously hot, so I'm not sure it's such a great idea to put flammables there without a specialised container to hold them.

Had a fantastic few days away camping with the girlfriend. The bike performed flawlessly and coped surprisingly well considering it was carrying 30kg of luggage as well as the two of us. Bizarre how fuel economy didn't seem to be affected, though she was slightly more sluggish on acceleration - think I can let her off.

Couple of interesting things to note. The bike had its first contact with rain during the trip - was rained on all of Thursday night. The 'lower' case, ie. the one on the stand side leaked quite badly whilst the 'upper' one stayed bone dry, but the funniest thing of all was the exhaust. I swear that before the night of rain it was good as new (bike is only a couple of months old) but on the morning after the rain there was a light coating of rust at the front and back of the silencer. Brilliant, Mr Buell! Oh well, at least now I join the club everyone else is already a member of!

The other thing was I decided to be brave and play with all the suspension settings prior to setting off on the trip. I set the bike up exactly as the book suggested, front and back. I'm not experienced enough to be able to set these things up by feel yet and I think there's some further tweaking required. Basically, the front end felt a bit too much like a pogo stick, reacting too sharply to bumps, while the back end was feeling more wallowy over the larger bumps and dips, so not well balanced front to back. Looking at the manual it's hard to figure out which settings to play with - a job for the experienced, so open to suggestions. Now I'm back to solo riding I'll change all the settings again anyway.

Have to say I completely love my Uly. What a superb all-rounder the bike is. Can't stop admiring it and enjoy every minute riding it. Roll-on the rest of summer!

Knew you would not need that oil bottle :) But it ain't that flamable to go under the seat any way, if it was that flamable there is no way you could put it an engine!!

Anyway, try less preload a line, then a quarter turn OFF on the comp and rebound for the front end.
I don't know how much but would if me defo put more comp and rebound on the rear to try.

Let us know how it goes.

Nate.

Glad you enjoyed your trip on the Uly..... It sounds very much like our experiencies when me and the g/f go camping. I've found that in order to transfer a little more weight to the front I tend to sit just that bit further forwards. She likes it because it gives her a little more room to do her nails and stuff, and I like it because it tends to steady the front end down. All in all tho, smashing bikes for touring. :D
