Would an S1 tank fit an X1 if you ignore the fuel pump/petcock issue? I mean the frame under the tank is the same, no?

This should start you going Mick:

That looks nice. I like the idea of more fuel, and losing the inserts.
But getting an M3 tank in metal is another thing. So may as well get a metal tank made that fits the bike anyway, and save having to modify my already modified seat :?

Good look with that, a one off tank that's unlikely to have any other interest from anyone wanting another, have you read this thread and all the others about ali tanks, I hope you have time on your side and shitloads of money.
I think your fixing a problem that doesn't exist.

I don't have a problem with the standard tank. I'm just not keen on it, or the cover.
I`d rather have an alloy tank without a cover.

I`ve had quite a bit of stuff made in aluminium for my car, and yes I am patient.
There are people out there who will do one off stuff.

:? £1500 to £2000 for a one off petrol tank I would guess and then the issues that brings with it, you have to really not like the stock set up.

I´m quite sure I can get one done for a lot less than that, going by one off stuff I've had done before. Anyway, I don't want to get into a debate about it.

I was just wondering if one of these S1 tanks would fit, and if it would, I was thinking it might be possible to fit the electric pump in the base, but I forgot about the seat being a different shape, and now I now the frame is different,
So my thinking is a none starter anyway.

I don't have shitloads of money, but if I decide on something, I'll save until I can do it.

Anyway, some of your lovely triple trees have to come first, when I can afford them, that is if you'll make me some. :4roz: :)

The tanks being made have a "lump" on the base which the petcock fits to. You may be able to cut this off or have it made with a flat surface for the pump outlet to fit to. Does the pump outlet exit in the same position as the petcock?

That was exactly what I was thinking, but seeing as Maz says the top frame rails are slightly different, and I hadn't considered the seat/tank interface, I guess it's a none starter.
I've already spent a shed load on a "shorty" seat/tail, so I don't want to be messing with that.

I do hate plastic, and I'm a bit partial to a nice bit of aloominum! :)

I have a brand new S3 injection tank in black for anybody that does want to go down that route ;) far cheaper than an aluminium one ;)

Would it actually be a plan to just have the accents or the tank cover or both made as aluminium fabrications? and still have the plastic tank underneath.
