As above really. Formally owned a stock xb9r and loved it. 10 years later I'm looking to get another buell. I've seen a few but from people's opinion do you think a stage 1 tuned xb9r would be more fun than a standard xb12r

I prefer the 12. Whenever I ride a 9 I always think they are lacking...
Others will tell you they prefer the 9 with a shorter stroke etc. that they spin up quicker etc.

How would you tune it ?......9 lacks torque and the extra revs just encourage them to throw rear pistons sooner :)

The 9 I was looking at was stage 1 exhaust air filter and ecu. I thought it may make up what the 9 lacks

I'd also heard the 12 can have bottom end problems

If it were only lacking noise, you would have it in the bag...

Which bottom end problems might these be?

Just what I've read. In my experience of owning an xb9r I always felt it could do with a little more power. Dont get me wrong it was great fun

The reason they're called 9's is that if you weigh more than 9 stone piss wet through in your riding gear, you really wont appreciate any benefit of the shorter stroke ie. they are girls bikes !
Buells are all about torque.....it's the only good thing about an antiquated 45 degree push rod air cooled V twin

.....and because there's nothing on the telly tonight, I'll rant some more......
Just as you wouldn't really want an air cooled motor in your car or a fully faired bike, why would you want a bike with an air cooled motor inside its petrol tank ?
The XB frame is effectively a fairing, the motor doesn't get decent air flow and the fuel in the frame gets real hot, it can even boil on a hot day, thus negating any benefit of charge cooling via latent heat of evaporation, coupled with the fact that the XB draws its air via an already hot airbox.
The only fuel in frame Buell I own is an 1125 because it's temps are controlled via liquid......they still super heat the fuel but at least fresh air is drawn from between the fork legs.
As you may have guessed by now, I'm really not a fan (excuse the pun) of the XB range, Erik should've stuck with the tube frame bikes, especially if he'd evolved them with the Helicon motor
