Hi all. An old friend of mine back home has an '04 XB12s which he says has a 'broken' gearbox.

He has told me it is stuck in 1st. Someone has offered him NZ$4k for it (£2k ish) I would like to see him get more or ultimately keep it (He loves the bike). If anyone has experienced anything like this or has any morsel of advice to pass on it would be appreciated. He's had all the usual advice like 'use it for a boat anchor' etc. NZ is a very Harley island and I'm keen to see an old friend stay on a Buell.

Cheers!

Could be as simple as the detent or a bent shifter fork. Too bad you have to split the cases to get to it.

Thanks mate I'll pass that on...might give him the motivation to do the work and not just give it away.

Have a look at the small springs from the shift pawls before tearing everything apart.
Could be that one of the springs came undone and could cause the shift troubles.

Also do you know if the shifting troubles started slowly or at once it could not shift anymore!?
Did he shifts a lot without pulling the clutch?

Thanks Bruv have passed it on.

He did say it was playing up over the weekend ride, wouldn't change up easily. Then at the gas station it became stuck in 1st.

No floppy lever. Hes going to open it up and have look. I'll keep you posted on the verdict...It could take some time, NZers move pretty slowly.

:maz: I said the money is on the clutch basket bearing.

He does not have a manual, tips on the best place for this. Ebay?
