The one thing I wish my bike had is PM wheels, just my opinion but they just look better suited to a Buell. I'm not a fan generally of US stuff and I'm not a Harley lover, so it's an odd thing for me to say but as they look more American they fit better with the overall appearance of the bike. I appreciate that they are higher maintenance than the painted 3 spokers but are there any other drawbacks to them? Are they comparable in weight? Finally what is accepted as the going rate for a decent pair needing a polish ?

Ta,
Mark

I fuckin' hate PM wheels !......look like something from the 80's that Starsky and Hutch would have on a car, cant stick balancing weights on properly because of all the compound curves and the rear is an absolute bastid to get in or out because the caliper carrier sits inside the hub.
Stupid rubber valve stems and a lifetime of polishing unless they're powder coated.
You couldn't give me PM wheels for free......did I mention that I fuckin' hate them ?

Ta,
Mark

PM wheels are love hate thing with me.

Loves:
Just one. They are 180 wide so I can put on stickier tires that are not available in 170 widths. I like to use the Dunlop Q3.

Hates:
1. Heavy. They were made for drag racing applications and are way overbuilt for a normal bike. Optimizing them for a bike under 200 RWHP would result in an easy 3-4 lb weight loss each.
2. Hate fucking polishing them. Can't get inside to where both halves are welded together to clean them.
3. If I was mile munching to the tune of 20,000 miles a year or more, I'd rather have the 170 wide cast alloys. Lots of great all weather sport touring tires come in 170 and are less expensive.

Just take a grinder to the heavy side of the tire. Balances and shaves weight.

I put metal stems on my PMs. Still holding air just fine after a couple years Look like this:

They are lighter than the cast wheels...

They've never peaked my interest either. They look like a pain to clean between the spokes. I like the cast ones.
