For a long time I've been trying to figure out how battery electrolyte is appearing around the battery, examining the battery shows no signs of cracks/leaks.
I have now decided it must fire out of the battery vent after the bike has been parked whilst hot.
Given how effin hot the engine & oil tank get I'm not surprised the poor old battery boils up.

Is this a common problem ?

I was ready to buy a new battery, but now think that's totally pointless as any battery is going to boil up and fire out electrolyte from the vent.

Opinions welcome..........

Boomerang :? what make is the battery ?

I've never heard of it on a Buell , but had it on old jap bikes when the regulator goes tits up
and boils that way but not from heat

Battery is an Exide. Its definitely not an overcharging issue ( My day job is electrical control systems, so guarantee the charging circuit is all ok )
It can only be heat from the engine boiling it up.

I think and therefore I could be wrong , that the original HD Battery is a gel type , as your aftermarket" Exide" is old school lead and sulphuric acid (liquid) this might be the problem .
A heat shield or some of that heat reflective tape / material between battery and engine might help

my back ground is 30 years in Railway electrical testing , but hey every days a school day :mrgreen:
i have just never heard of a Buell , boiling a battery from heat transfer ,
is the battery old ? ,as sulfation can cause heat build up in a battery,
which could be your route cause ?

My Exide ETX20HL-BS is an AGM battery, as recommended by Buell.
Interestingly I found this comment on a battery website.............

AGM and other sealed batteries do not like heat and should be installed away from the engine compartment. Manufacturers recommend halting charge if the battery core reaches 49°C (120°F)

i take it ,then that it's not an old battery?
manufacturer say it's the correct one for the bike
yet it's still causing a problem
can you take it back for a replacement ?
or is the warranty period over

Don't know how old the battery is, it came with the bike when I bought it.

I'm putting the bike in a dark corner with a sheet over it. Totally sick of it wasting too much of my time.

Batteries are tricky blighters. I once bought a battery for my Buell, the type that you decanted the acid yourself from a sealed pack. Decided to let it settle on the floor outside my garage before putting on the bike, glad I did so, as it was faulty and acid piddled out of every orifice.

In respect of automotive battery life, I have had them fail in less than 3 years. On the flip side, I have a Bosch Silver car battery on a piece of agricultural machinery, that came off a van I scrapped, that must be the guts of 20 years old and is still going strong :shock:
