Anyone know the possible affect, if any, of the proposed ethanol increase in fuel on the tuber engines? I know if it is introduced I still have the option of buying super unleaded 98 but would like to have a choice

I'm not sure regarding Tuber engines as I was looking at ethanol in general when I had my Triumph because of the tank being composite.
My understanding is that all Rubber & composites are at risk with higher methanol, inlet manifolds, throttle body seals, all seals that come into contact with it, tank sealing, pipes etc.
I also believe that super 98 is not effected as it remains at 5%. It should also say on the petrol pump body somewhere what amount of ethanol is in the petrol.
If I find the links I read I'll post them for you.
Here's a couple just to highlight fuel lines.

All the best Paul.

Whenever I hear of ethanol in petrol I always remember how attractive it makes S1 petrol tanks ;)

But Super will also have ethanol in unless you are very lucky!

An increase in ethanol content means a higher AFV to compensate or a bigger main jet needed on the carbed bikes. Another reason not to disable closed loop on your ECM...

Last time I did the sums, 8% dearer, 10% better economy = no brainer. That's before you consider the health benefits to your fuel system and engine if you're diligent in buying only pukka (ie Shell/ Esso/ BP/ Texaco) rather than supermarket bottom-of-the-tank shite. We in the motor trade are not reliant on just our own personal experience, we deal with the fall out from poor fuel and the consequential damage to CATS and oxygen sensors. And I have had hundreds of customers thank me for introducing them to pukka super.
But I guess it pains your sporran to brim your tank with the good stuff too often, eh Clive? ;)

I've never run mine on low grade so don't know if I get more mileage, but it definitely runs ok & I'm well happy with the mileage I get, usually over 250 on a five gallon frame without the petrol light coming on. On that basis 50+ per gallon I guess?

It's going up to 15% ethanol pretty soon as well & there are plans for further increases. That will make everything run shit, cause major motor problems & hence the introduction of electric cars with their shit range will seem better than breaking down.
Not bad for a simple soul. :yup:

Whilst I get all the good stuff to the engine, I defo don’t see any more mpg. I generally do put the good stuff in and yes, it does hurt the pocket :o It can be up to 15p a litre more expensive  There’s nowt tighter than an Englishman living in Scotland :yup:

Yes, I know it’s cheaper in the long run...etc...etc :D :rotfl:

Not sure they'd be able to call it super if they did?

The Esso garage just down the road from me has the stickers on the pumps (I checked today) & it's all 5% ethanol at the moment. It's also very good super at Esso garages, Bp is great as well.

The garage owners didn't have a clue? Seemingly they just sell it.
