I'm planning to check the primary chain adjustment at the weekend, this got me thinking. Why isn't there a belt primary kit for Buells, I don't mean the big wide external kits like those for big twin Harleys, but something that would fit inside the primary case. Alloy pulleys and a belt would reduce overall weight, do away with the need for adjustment and improve clutch operation.

I owned a 1979 Triumph Bonneville T140D for a just over 16 years, for those not in the know that's a Meriden Triumph, kickstart an' all and with a primary set up much the same as the Buells. Pretty much the first thing done to the bike was this upgrade, the kit was purchased from Norman Hyde and made a big difference to the bike.

Anybody know why there isn't such a kit for Buells?

If there is it would be the same as a Sportster I'd imagine

There is but the Buell runs a wet primary and clutch, the kit is very expensive and needs the transmission oil to be isolated and a different clutch set up......if it aint broke, why try and fix it ?

I’ve got a Hayward belt primary on my T140, and it runs wet as the engine breathes into the primary.

Wakan/Avinton was running a dry primary with a belt but by who I don't know. They were using S&S built engines but that shouldn't matter for this discussion.

If you can locate their website, I can't find it, maybe they might mention who makes it.

Wakan/Avinton, I remember them, a French outfit if I remember correctly. Are they still producing bikes?
