Hi all,

Sold my XB12Scg and bought a KTM 690 SMR.
Many thanks for all the laughs I got from this forum.
Thought I'd cast a poll so I can decide what to do about the forum.

Wishing you all a safe riding future,
CB

Would have loved the 990 SMR, but these are tall bikes and given the significant weight difference between the two bikes, I only felt comfortable to go for the 690 SMR. I'm only 5'5".

I don't think its better. Just better for me. Further removed from my FXDX which I never want to part with. Probably just having a crisis in response to my mum passing away last year.

I didn't try that one. Its more of a fun bike I'm needing, since I do my distances on the FXDX. Originally liked the 990 SMR, but my mate bought the 690 SMR, made the mistake of letting me ride it and I liked the radical styling so... Will miss the Buell. Although I didn't have it that long, it never missed a beat.

Quick question regarding insurance. I went into my broker today to inform them about the impending KTM, fully expecting the price to go down - but it went up!

Given that the Buell:
- is more expensive
- has a larger engine
- has more power and torque

... how can the KTM be more expensive to insure (the broker wasn't able to explain)?

MCN says the Buell is ins grp 15 whereas the KTM is grp 11. My insurance company poo-poo'd that. I'd like to be armed with some facts if I'm to poo-poo the poo-poo.

IMO, you'll get no joy this year, they have you by the balls... or the wallet at least, until renewal time.

They'll come up with all sorts of BS to justify their charge, such as administration on changing the details of your bike, sending out the new documents etc. And, whilst many may scoff, that stuff does cost a fair amount of money.

KaTooM might also be more of a risk for thievery. Not many Buells get nicked. Can the same be said for 690SMRs?

Parts prices and availability? It's a new bike so they'll still be charging top dollar for spares. That will push up the insurance cost.

Nobber status? Not sure what Buell you had but they aren't generally ridden by nobbers. Can the same be said for 690SMRs?

Thanks Norm, some good points there. I'd been thinking along the lines that there are just less of the Buells in existence, so less claims history.

I had an Scg, which I've sold to a forum member.

The brokers quoted £15 admin fee. I'm not quibbling with that, its the fact that everywhere I look, the KTM Supermoto 690R is quoted as ins grp 11. But the insurance company insist that it is grp 16!

Does anyone know where there is an industry listing that I can refer them to?
