Not quite the tail piece thread that seems to have been put out of it’s misery? lOl

I discovered that my existing number plate for my XBSx was already on the legal minimum. Being a 7 digit plate it doesn’t look so cool with the cut down tail  , but there is hope given my re-use of the number plate end of the original cheese grater casting. This mounts the plate an inch lower than the typical cut down show plates l see on some XBs so the larger plate isn’t so stark. The L08 mini reflector is stuck on the back of R&G led lamp between the brake lamp and top of the plate. ;)

Looking at some custom plate providers like ‘Number 1 Plates’ gives some ideas on how to tone down standard plates by waisting or tapering the sides while maintaining legal spacing.

After reviewing some web sites, I hit on the idea of simply grinding an approx 15 mm radius to the four corners. This significantly tones down the visual impact of the plate. The inside and lower edge of the indicators are inline with the top and side of the number plate, but cleared by this radius, neat! I also filed a few mm off the straight edges just to steal a little more reduction. 8-)

Sounds interesting. I just went for the 7x6 and it looks about a 1/3 smaller - I’ve got away with it so far and will just take hits if stopped. It looks so much better :yup:

I know it’s not compliant but unless it’s a letterbox one or tiny what’s the problem? It’s not like the speed ‘safety’ cameras cant see them, I’ve had a couple of PIP’s whilst using them.

Not smart to say but should they be stopping someone who doesn’t have tax/insurance or driving/riding like a dick. Assuming it’s not me of course :rotfl:

We have all of our bikes sporting smaller plates - to be fair Magz did get a producer on her first ride on the EBR when it was brand new. The cop was great but had to do something as it was part of a mass tyre/lights etc check. A producer was a fair one.

I know, we’ve had this discussion many times before :)

Speed isn’t an issue with mine as it seems to be restricted to about 97 last time l tried! The standard plate as modded is designed to get through the MOT.........hopefully! Then l may go smaller. ;)

How often does anyone actually look at their bike from the rear? Surely the best way to admire any bike is from the side. Never seen the fascination or point of attracting unwanted plod attention by having a small plate. Bad enough passing them with a loud exhaust without giving them a very obvious excuse to stop you 🙄

I used to look and admire the rear view of my S1....clean, tidy and the sight most people only ever got of it!

Had already thought of that. It’s a three quarter view showing the installation as much as the plate. ;)
