The 'way' to fit a Free Spirits Belt Tensioner has always been to space it off the engine by fitting washers behind the body. This is needed to prevent the tensioner jamming against the
Five Star manufacturing muffler straps when the belt is at its tightest.
Whilst the Uly XP was on the ramp being prepared for a special mission (have patience dear Gunter), I thought it would be interesting to see what would be required to rework one to make it fit without having to use the washers...
So, a quick trial fit, then out with the file... Then another trial fit...

Note the witness marks, out with the file again...
Fit and check for witness marks, of which there were none (so no picture).
Tensioner wheel was refitted, the spacer washer inside the fork was fitted on the outer side of the tensioner wheel.
The belt now runs in the middle of the wheel...
