Hi Folks,

Sorry to bother you again but has anyone tried painting the standard exhaust on an 1125r & was it successful & what paint did you use?

I've decided the standard exhaust although Ugly as sin doesn't do a bad job with a little bit of modification & I certainly can't afford £500 to a £1000 for another as yet. So attempting to tart the standard one up a bit.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks Paul

Last time I painted a black exhaust, I used a good quality high temprature barbeque paint, lasted a couple of years and was cheap. Sorry, so long ago I cant remember which one was used,

Yep, same as me......picked a good quality stove paint from fleabay.......VHT stuff and I believe it was 2 cans for £10 ish. Two cans were needed for a good finish.

Thanks for the advice folks.

Did think about barbecue paint but it's always black, but at least I know it has worked for you guys in the past.

I was more after a colour-ish, I should have been clearer I guess.

I'm looking at this

KBS Coatings High Temp Paint altern to POR20 Xtreme Temp 236ml Cast Iron Grey.

Heats to 850 rather than 650 like most VHTs.

I think it may be similar to the casing paint & not black.

Thanks again for your replies.

All the best Paul.

Check the instructions on the paint you choose. Some need to be oven baked on, which seems a bit odd as running the engine for half an hour is going to basically do the same job.

Hi Dave,

I've asked the seller about this, as yet no reply, because it's the weekend I guess.

Seems quite a few need up to 3 bakes in the oven for differing lengths of time, not sure about my missus being too keen on that process & the stink of baking paint throughout the house, it's bad enough with two collies ha ha.

PM you address or phone No. if you're up for a visit at some point.

I've just about got the handling sorted out on the 1125r, I wouldn't mind a blast over the Snake Pass to Glossop, it would certainly let me know if it is sorted, or we could meet at a cafe or something if that suits you better.

Thanks again for your attention everyone who has replied.

All the best Paul.

Not saying it will happen, but on one occasion I put 3x coats on a set of downpipes (Yamaha :) ) ignoring the bake instruction s and they turned brown after about 30 seconds of tick over.

Oven baking is even and controlled.
Simply firing the engine up and hoping the exhaust gas is at the right sort of temp is one thing but there's no way it can ever be considered consistent and even.
Try and find a friendly ceramicist or powder coater etc who will bake it for you at the correct temp.

Yeah thanks,

I totally get that.

Looks like barbecue paint & a new exhaust eventually.

Thanks.

Had a look at Rustings.

Did you cure it by running the bike?

Thanks paul.

Hi Folks,

Plumped for Etech XHT Graphite paint. Needs baking at 160c for half an hour.

Think I can utilise my barbecue & a big box for that.

I'll post a pic of the results when it's done.

Paul.
