2006 Ulysses, just stripped the forks to change the seals and found that both stanchions are pitted. Question is do I replace or have the originals re-chromed? I would be interested to hear others experience and recommendations. Also for re-chroming, how long did it take?

I had some rechromed for my RVF400 by Philpots, took as long as they said (maybe 6 weeks) but it seemed like an absolute age. They did a great job though. £270 stripped and £380 as a complete fork for the pair.

New sliders used to be much cheaper, they are now about £350 a pair from Riders of Bristol with the discount and come with seals and bushes. J8142.1AK and J8143.1AK.

You could also just replace the tube - Brooks Barn may be able to help (they were an option for my Honda and they may be able to get matching tubes for you). You'll have to get the lower casting off yourself though.

Or you could look for secondhand stuff, but it might be bent or pitted - I did this for my Honda and found exactly this...

If it was me, I'd buy the new Buell part, it will be quicker and there will be less fannying about...

If you mention you're from this Parish, they may give you a bit of discount too. They are good folk to deal with 8-)
