Hi all,

I am hoping to keep my X1 at my address , but in the future the ULEZin London will kick in and I will have to either sell it , move out of the area, or get it tested by these guys; -

Riverbank Motorcycles Ltd
Unit 12, Riverbank Business Park
Dye House Lane, Bow
London E3 2TB

That said, is there anyone that makes an exhaust or can modify a standard one to take one of these?

I'm not sure if that would get round the legislation as emissions on bikes are not tested at mot and I'm guessing it would be near impossible to convince anyone to change the ruling on an individual bike basis

I think if it's a year by year manufacture thing & the X1 is listed as not compliant, I think you will have one hell of a time trying to convince anyone "Official" to shift those restrictions even if you retro fit a cat. No one will be concerned with whether you've made your's compliant or not, how would you prove it & who would inform, who in authority cares? As far as they are concerned it does not meet the criteria by the year of manufacture & that's that.
On the other side of that, I'm pretty sure my 1125r doesn't meet the criteria, but it's within the range of years with the appropriate certification saying it is. Now that's unfair.
Just my view of course, all the best with whatever you try.

I've not read it thoroughly, but there does seem to be a mechanism for asking them to grant exemption to a vehicle that doesn't automatically qualify...

"Register with us if we have said you need to pay ULEZ or LEZ charges for your vehicle, and you believe that's not the case."

Plenty of BMW owners getting COC letters from BMW stating that their NOx emissions are below 0.15g/km.
Tfl are adding them to the list of ULEZ exempt bikes. This seems to be working for boxer twins going back as far as 2001.
There's no way an X1 would get through but if you can get the cat to reduce emissions below the limit you can get it tested at Riverbank Motorcycles and made ULEZ exempt. I suspect that getting it to run ok might be trickier than just bolting it on.

Unfortunately they are only accepting the COC documents one at a time. If BMW have said that your GS1150 produces 0.3g/km NOx they just add your bike to the list, not all GS1150s.

Ask Erik nicely if he'll knock up a letter for you, chances are no one would ever check :D
