Thanks for that.

My thinking was that a standard Harley Engine would use cast pistons but the Buell is not really standard. My inexperience made me question whether forged pistons were part of that upgrade.

No intention of doing any racing but I do enjoy the Buell's performance.

I will go with cast as my poor riding skills will give the engine time to cool.

Thanks again.

PS: you do realise that children need to eat every single day? And I've got two of them!

My best buddy has 3 & I've watched his son, now a young man, eat a loaf of bread as toast with a jar of honey for a snack heh heh.

Well, I for one, quite seriously hope that given the choice of feeding the kids or buying pistons, the kids come first every time.

Why not just buy standard pistons?

What a novel idea. Though he is going to need +0.010" oversize I should think if he's melted the piston skirt.

Good point and there’s are no oversize XB pistons IIRC. Which then comes back to the options:

Secondhand top end
Hurricane pistons plus rebore
Hammer pistons plus rebore
Wiseco pistons plus rebore
NRHS 1250 kit
Hammer 1250 kit

Also,
If his original bores were worn, the pistons would've suffered from "slap" which would also melt them & may look the same as petrol wash.
Hope I used the inverted comma's ok Bonzo.
