I've been looking at improving lights as well.

I've seen these - maybe what you're looking for?
Suspect my local MOT Tester won't be as impressed as some of the reviewers - I've not seen the manufacturer answer questions on whether they're approved for road use.

The full LEDs look damn cool on the Lightning XB, but they’re burning 120w all through the day instead of only 55w. How long do the units last and how many miles will they cover? :?

As l do very little night riding, the price is probably a bit too high.

for the aliexpress ones

Voltage : 10-30V DC
Hi Beam Power : 45W
Low Beam Power : 35W
Drl Power : 4W
Light Color : White

so not sure where 120W came from - the point of LED is more light for less power consumption

That really surprises me if they are using that much power, with household led lights they use about 1/10 of the power of an halogen equivalent so why would vehicle ones use more that halogen? are you sure they aren't saying that they give the light output equivalent to 120W of halogen?

Agreed the consumption is low, but my assumption is the wattage equates to heat and stress. The led security lamps l use invariably fail after a year to 18 months. Are the elements shown of a more durable nature. Just asking as l admit to knowing little about the technology. :?

The reason led lights are cheaper to run is because they convert virtually all of the energy to light where Halogen waste a lot of the energy used because it converts it to heat, so the led's run very cool compared to the older halogens.

So they should theoretically last forever, or at least a very long time?

What happens if a unit fails? In the case of my security lights it was whole unit replacement every time, but that was only £20ish so no big deal.......just inconvenient fitting it while up a ladder.

Not that l need a ladder to service my Buell lOl ....maybe just another £250 though? :?

Normally LED lamps do last thousands of hours BUT like anything in life they sometimes don't do what they are supposed to do lOl ........... are you feeling lucky or unlucky ;)
