My M2 has started making what I can only describe as a noise like a squealing fanbelt it comes and goes at tick over/low revs
got oil pressure and can see the oil returning to the oil tank
plenty of oil in gearbox/primary
starts up fine ticks over lovely then maybe after a minute or so will start squealing then it will go away as suddenly cant tell where its coming from have been round the engine with a screwdriver to my ear cant tell
this is happening in neutral not been brave enough to ride it
Any ideas
I posted this on the FB page and was advised to to check fanbelt tension LOL
TIA Steve

The question is for a 98 bike, has the uprated tensioner ever been fitted? If not, it is highly likely to have cracked. Very common issue indeed before the tensioner was significantly strengthened.

Steve is correct with his warning about the tensioner. The only one I've ever seen that wasn't broken in an early bike, was the one I fished out of one of mine lOl . I would imagine there's a possibility of shrapnel finding its way into the gearbox - you really don't want that. Take the primary case off for a peek. Depending on the type of cover gasket you have, you may be able to reuse it.

The oil is red ?, I'd consider replacing it with HD Sport Trans  looks like an upgraded tensioner too :yup:

if you look close at the picture Gus it's broken on the right hand end
& as Steve said it was so slack , may be why it broke the end off
but lucky he found it before it did more damage :sun:
