Tried to start my uly last w/e - there seems to be enough power, the engine seems to be turning over but is not catching. Bike is kept connected to an optimate when not in use. Had a look through a few threads but cannot see anything - Is it a f****d battery or are there other potential culprits I need to look at first. HELP!!

Current ride: rusty 3-speed pedal

Not sayin' the battery's not fekked, but check your plugs and wires first: plugs in good shape, and wires sound and well-connected to plugs and coil. Assuming your fuel pump is priming at startup (whining noise), it sounds as if all systems are "go" until it comes to actually delivering a spark to ignite the fuel. You may have fouled the plugs, or perhaps ridden in the rain and made your ignition system unhappy.

Managed to get a multimeter - battery sitting at 12.5 with bike off - when I try to start it that drops to 2 or less - I take it that this means that the battery is fecked - the bike was working prefectly the day before and wasn't washed or in rain.

Mine just did it, for no reason, the other day just after a ride. You could check the negative strap post on the subframe. It sorted mine and it now starts on the button every time.

See my post on this as it might help.

As a matter of interest does your engine run almost perfectly smooth.

Took the subframe to bits and did what Duch suggested - carefully plugged everything back together and pressed the button - Guess what -

The f###king thing started first time. :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Good job, Andy. :yup:

Does the engine run any better? The reason I ask is because the loom has two earth points there and it fixed my engine running problems as well. I have an idea that it is a design flaw on the Uly and maybe with the other XBs as well.

I haven't had it out since I fixed it - although it did seem to be ticking over smoother
