Post subject:  Fork oil seals XB12r (04)

Can any one give me some advice on replacing fork oil seals!! My brother will be assisitng me, who is a good car mechanic but also got this bike back on the road when so much went wrong.. so any info will be appreciated.. i guess i will also change fork oil..thanks col.. :dance: :dance:

Done the tuber forks but not the XB forks, they can't be much different. Have you got a manual and a seal tool (not sure what the correct term is)?

Yes. Unless you are totaly sure what you are doing take it to a Pro.

Or if you do.
All working areas, tools, hands, etc must be spotless clean. No dirt to get into the system.

Know how USD forks go together.

Have the fork manual and a diagram if possible. Have all new parts to hand before starting the job as well as any special tools needed.

Change everything IE - A rebuild as no point doing it otherwise :roll:

Well i dont have the fork tool, nor had i planned on renewing everything..... so for example what else do you think i should renew :?: i thought seals and oil would do it :!: :!: :askmaz:

Trouble is that you have to use the slider as a slide hammer to remove the seal, this usually damages the bushes and support ring.

I'd get Tubbs to do it at Moore Speed Racing down in Parkstone near Poole, Dorset.

I would if I had never done it before. The outcome of getting it wrong could be expensive or worse.

Do not know the cost these days though.

am getting it done by tubbs at end of month.. so will have to go to yoffis run with leaky forks!!as you say getting it wrong will be much worse.. :oops: gonna try and get a peek while he does it see how its done.. :geek:
