Thinking about doing a track day. Never done one (treat the streets of london like one)

Anyone got any suggestions. Im in the south but dont mind a bit of a drive..just feel like i owe it to the bike and myself to see what this bike and me are capable of.

I read somewhere full leathers are required (which i dont have)

If your leathers zip together most of the way around, they'll be ok. There's loads of advice on the Net about getting the bike sorted, learn the track on Youtube, get your tyres warm (a couple of non nutter laps) don't go mad first time out etc, etc.

The best bit of advice I can give, is EAT BREAKFAST You probably won't feel like it, but unless you keep yourself hydrated and fed throughout the day, you'll get knackered and start making mistakes. Drink LOTS of water (and I mean lots - keep an eye on the colour of your piss - seriously) eat bananas and continually graze on sweets (chocolate covered raisins are my favourite)

Then wonder why you've not done one before

If it's an XB (and probably an 1125...though I never tracked mine) then keep it topped up with fuel, as I found braking in to chicanes resulted in stuttering on the way out with a slightly low tank due to the fuel being somewhere near the headstock and not the pump pick up!

and put your bike on a trailer or in a van, best not going on your bike.
Maybe put some proper tyres (sp?) on the bike ?!

Good advice about taking the bike on the trailer if you can. If it's a full day you'll be pretty tired - it also stops you riding in track mode on the way home

Like Adam said - take plenty of water for between sessions. You'll have a gob like Mahatma Gandhis' left flip flop

So the generally rule of thumb is don't go on the bike. Anyone know if an xb fits in the back of a new shape transporter vw ? Any track thats half decent or is it all a much of a muchness.

Dont have leathers and don't fancy buying them, can i rent them....i hear you saying....yuk would be like putting a wet suit on with pi... In it nice. Maybe not.

I have bridgestone 020 on the bike would they be ok...

Also i have this reverso albert exhaust have to say....it fcuk loud even with the baffle in. I dont mind but is there a restriction ? And anyone know how loud this is guess i could ask the man himself!

I've only done a couple of track days at Knockhill but they did have leathers for hire at reasonable rates. The paper work said 105 db and Gold sticker lids but no one checked

We did have a Hoofin time and we're gonna do more...oh yessss

I have two-piece zip together and single piece leathers that you can borrow. I'm about 5 foot 10 amd 31 inch waist.

As for what track to go for, Cadwell wins every time. Mallory is just dull -Knockhill is fun, but its a long way away - but you are not loooking for the best possible track, you are looking for your first track experience, so any will do fine.

In an ideal world you get the bike trailored/ vanned up and you get another driver to drive it home (if you ae not completrly shattered and useless at the end of the session, you weren't trying hard enough!).

If you have to rdie home, give it a few hours after you come off the track (to let your head cool down) and take it slow - you have nothing to prove on the ride home.
