Motorcycles must use
an unaltered frame (original or new) and two of the following major components from the original machine.
Forks
Wheels
Engine or gearbox
If a second-hand frame is used, the vehicle must have Motorcycle Single Vehicle Approval (MSVA). A ‘Q’ registration number will then be issued (see section 7).

That is the only legal way ;)

But non of those parts belong to that V5 ......................so if you don't use that Xb frame then that Vin number does not legally apply to the vehicle.

there's no proof the wheels and fork don't belong to that v5 as they are like for like. the engine number can be easily changed as it is like for like in the way you would if the original had blown. the frame will technically be converted but the bike will not be a rebuild.

How are you technically converting the frame. The XB frame holds the fuel in it ... ? Will your custom bike use the original XB frame?

Dogmetal...it's the sort of thing you can get away with only until you get pulled by someone who knows what they are looking at or you take it in for an MOT with a tester who does his job properly. The SVA rules are there for a reason and you can't just create a 'triggers broom' of a bike and retain the identity. A motorbikes identity is indelibly linked to the frame (or identical brand new frame in the event that a replacement is required due to damage). Take away the frame and you are left with a vehicle that requires an SVA regardless of what other parts of the original bike you have used.

It's your build, do what you like, nothing to do with me or anyone else but don't blame anyone but yourself when the inevitable happens and you see all your hard work and investment sent to the crusher... :o

Edit.....your build would probably class as a 'radically altered vehicle' rather than a kit, regs are here:

Hmmmm..........not sure that discussing this kind of thing on an open forum is particularly wise :?
However, this kind of mlarkey goes on all the time with classic trials bikes, (that really only use public highways for a few 100yds etc) The police in rural areas tend to turn a very sensible blind eye and treat the trials bikes very much like 'agricultural vehicles' so long as the riders don't take the piss and cause any problems :D

Anyway I've never seen a bike from made from a doner. I'd imagine the handling would be a bit soggy. :old:
