Anybody want one (two or three)?

Got 6 people who want one, need 4 more before I flip the switch.

Think they worked out £72 last time inc postage. Depends on exchange rate.

A good question. Willy tapped up HPC and so did I afterwards. For them to make 50, they wanted £85 each...

If you know somewhere reputable that could make them cheaper, lets hear it...

That's a bit pricey then. Plus VAT too I guess.

There's shed loads of people around who can make those. There's a mob in Manchester who make gears and gearboxes for bikes. Spen will know them as they're CRMC people. In the past, I had wondered if they could make gears for Sportster/Buell gearboxes where the dogs don't break off, but never got round to talking to them. http://www.mpe07.co.uk/index.html

The problem is that you are putting your whole engine in someone else's hands. Gearboxes for racing motorcycles are not going to see the mileage that you would want to see before your oil pump drive gear fails.

Nova Transmissions (Ian Dyson ex-Barton - first Buell engine) were on my list to discuss with, but I never got around to it.

That, of course, is one point of view. Fact is, if you were so worried about 3rd party pump drive gears, why don't you buy genuine Buell/Harley gears? When I bought the new type gear they were dirt cheap from HD. Then again, who do you think makes the Buell/Harley gears? They will be made by one of HD's regular suppliers. They probably have three suppliers on their list and each batch is likely tendered for by the makers. In other words, you have no idea where the gear you have actually came from. Could it be Chinese? May be, HD buy loads of stuff from China.

Same goes for the Lucky Hands gears. Do they make them or does someone else? Who actually reverse engineered the gear and decided on machining tolerances? And is the material specification the same as the Buell/Harley one?

What I'm saying is, no matter whose gear you install, your engine is still 100% dependent on the quality of that component.

But it is better to be 100% reliable on something that has credibility... Look through the posts here and you will find posts that say they LH gear is more robust than the Beryllium Copper Buell gear.

Anyway, we have digressed and the 6 people that want LH gears need some more interest in gear purchases before I order some more...
