As far as I recall, in late 2000, or early 2001, Buell reacted to a guy in the US breaking the mounting boss on the rear shock to swing arm pivot (probably through extreme off road abuse) in 2000 by introducing an emergency safety component which did not take any mechanical load but which prevented the rear suspension collapsing if said boss was to break.

As far as I am aware, all 1999 and 2000 S3's, M2's and X1's would have been recalled to have said safety component fitted and my X1 was no exception.

All subsequent Buell tubers with the alloy swing arm were fitted with a rear shock with a slightly beefed up boss.

8.5 K is a joke as is Daves estimate of 5.8K......I would say 3.5K max.
Methinks Monty will own this bike until the day he dies

What kind of moron would spend £2k to replace an stainless exhaust header system because of a couple of minor scuffs Maz?

My silver ceramic coated exhaust headers, even with a couple of minor scuffs, look twice as good as most "blued" brushed stainless X1 / M2 / S3 headers which, in my opinion, look absolutely horrible.

My X1 special is a joy to ride and is as reliable and mechancially sound as as just about any X1 out there.

I had shocks replaced for the later type, under recall.

2K has nothing to do with the exhaust, it's to upgrade all the parts that haven't been done yet ie. the bike IS NOT mechanically sound......I wouldn't mind betting that at least one of those rear isolators is already sheared.

Ironically, I always fancied a Millenium X1. Shame that's nothing like one.

Agreed. His spares are worth something tho. Especially the gauge.

The only thing Millenium edition left on it is the perforated insert mounted in the tailsection, the header and the timing cover. That was standard on Milleniums in the USA. Without the Millenium plastics, it isn't worth any more than a regular X1 and in fact much less with S3 parts on it, and that certainly isn't even 5800. Not even a Carbon Fiber edition xxx out of 250 will go for 5800. I'd give 2500, no more. Plenty that needs doing.

Agreed. Advertising it as a Millennium Edition and then selling off the Millennium parts separately is a bit cheeky.
The fact that it is a Millennium Edition also marks it out as a 2000 bike with all the problems that that model year came with - none of which appear to have been sorted.

As for the price. He can ask whatever he wants but the real value in that bike would be as an original unmolested Millennium Edition - preferably with all the bugs fixed (shock/isolators/tensioner/shifter etc..)

None of these "Edition" bikes are worth much more than standard anyway - they're just a set of bodywork (not even that in this case) and some cosmetic tat.

Worse yet for an owner trying to offload an "edition" X1 is that, at least in the USA, the X1s with the special paint like the yellow/purple scallops, molten lava, etc. were actually added by the dealers to a standard X1 but deceitfully sold as special editions. So you paid the full price for a basic X1 and 1600 USD for the special painted body work and the feckers sold off the original body work or put it in stock for spares someday. And they didn't even compensate you for them keeping the original bodywork. So an 11k bike now sold for 12.6k but the 2 sell for the same price 17 years later because the paint was limited ed, not the bike.

The CF X1 and Millenium X1 were the only 2 special eds that were complete directly from Buell.

Well I'm learning stuff :D

Going off-track slightly - are X1s normally poor starters? From cold it pretty much always takes three starts and need to keep the throttle slightly open. Generally starts ok when warm.

By comparison the XB was always a fantastic starter, no matter how long it was left. First press every time. :yup:

Ta.
