I don't quite know what you mean by generic, but they have to allocate a date/ age related number, so he will get a similar type of number back. And if the car and number is worth £1500, and he can get somewhere near £1200 for the number, I don't believe the car would then only be worth £300?
Actually begs the question, how many "classic cars", have their original registration numbers today? My bet is not many, but what do I know? :?

I think that classic "purists" will want the original number, as it keeps the provenance intact. My plate (6 digit) on my 1949 Speedtwin is allegedly worth £2k, but I'm gonna keep it, as it is part of it's history.
Bonzo's right about the Beezer, but I've never failed to be amazed by the prices that some really shit bikes are now making.
Bantams and Tiger Cubs for £3000+??? I should cocoa.

Norton Navigator anyone? lOl

nothing wrong with cherised plates IMO, each to there own. if you all wanted to fit in you would buy some generic japanses sports thing.

with regards to bike values, i'm shocked at the price quoted for some Buells for sale.

People can ask whatever price they what for their bike :o , that’s why you see the same bike being advertised again and again . Any item for sale is only worth the amount somebody else is willing to pay for it, no matter how much washing and polishing and customising you have done

I am probably a culprit for paying a 'higher price' for my Buell .. but its the bike I have always wanted.. I cant get a new one anymore, and messing around haggling or trying to get a deal on one always seemed to end up in me loosing out on a good bike and it being snapped up by germans..

in the end i bit the bullet, and when the bike i wanted came up for sale i payed the full asking price.. and actually after a recent visit to a bike dealership I think the price of some new bikes is crazy in comparison..

I think its true to say.. .. ' its how much its worth to the buyer' - the sellers price is just a figure to initiate the sale..

If you didn't pay that price, you wouldn't have the bike...
