I have another lathe for sale, it may be of interest to someone on here so here goes:
Very similar to a colchester student lathe but with a 5 horse power motor.
It is fitted with an 8" chuch and has a 40" bed, with the gap removed it can swing 18" diameter, comes with a 4 jaw chuck and three point steady.

I won't go on about it but its in good working order and I'm only selling because I've been offered the same machine that has been in storage since the 70's so is in as new condition

I have a couple of option to offer it as, the cheapest being as described for £1600, which is what I've just paid for it, it is three phase so if you don't have a supply you will need a phase convertor.

I can help with some one who can transport the machine with a lightweight hiab truck.

Thanks mate, it actually is a bargain and its not a toy, I've made some great stuff on it.
Like I said, it wouldn't be going anywhere but the replacement is an identical machine, same year and everything but virtually unused, feels like 1973 all over again, which is no bad thing :D

:yt:
at least they used to make things that were built to last in them days , sadly in this modern day and age things get built to a cost rather than quality item as the original designer had intended .

As many of you know, I have the next size up (Triumph 2000) and although Myfords etc. are more engaging and great for intricate work, the ability to take large cuts through difficult materials without distortion of the machine cannot be under estimated. Big lathes rule...

I need CNC machines next to reduce the engagement further...

I do all my work on a 2000, but Andy's machine looks in much better condition than the one I use. If only I had the space.

A good point you make there, and one I'd not considered before about machine distortion. I'll be more careful in future when 'chunking' large cuts 8-)

Not an issue if you a mic-ing then taking a cut, but what you think you have removed isn't necessarily what you actually have removed. I'm not the expert, just recounting experience of confusion...
