Are you sure that they weren't heated grips ?

Traction grips are about $17 in the States so about £17 over here ...

... I think I paid about £15 for mine.

I asked if they were heated grips, and they wern't. Someone please give them a call just to convince me i wasn't dreaming....

Maybe the guy just said they weren't because they were cold when he picked them up :D
