I've done a lot of track days on my S1wl and its a real hoot, yeah you do get overtaken on the longer straights but you can get your own back going into, through and out of the bends. Good sticky tyres make things a lot less fraught. The S1 does call for a pretty involved and gutsy riding style and very carefull feathering of the clutch mid corner but thats part of the fun.
Trackdays are about sharpening your skills and legally having a lot of fun.
Maz will berate you heavily for the abuse of such a rare beauty but they are tough bastards and should, god forbid, you bin one they do fix up pretty easily........maybe a less rare s1, m2 or x1 would be the better choice if you were going down the tuber route. They are a lot easier to work on too.
Good luck be carefull and enjoy :yup:

2 days at Snetterton and went without fault apart from some loose bolts I should have spotted before I went out, I'll learn...
Took time to warm the engine before going for it and all seems good. Stayed in novice group, took tyres to the edges, only diablo's, so not pushing till I get some more miles under my belt.
Very pleased with the performance and handling- set up by the manual for my weight.May play around with race settings I've seen somewhere , let some air out the tyres and fit some a bit stickier and see how I get on.
Standard oil ok for trackdays or should I change spec?

Standard Oil should be fine just change more often 2k max. Tyre wise as long as they're hot diablos are pretty sticky but won't last long, anything softer and they'll shread in no time. Conti Ra 2s are good but wear quick a multi compound hyper sport tyre would be the way to go. Michelin pilot power 2ct, Dunlop sport smart or bridgestone s20, will all give tons of grip and sensible road mileage.
Enjoy :yup:

Std oil is fine, (even diesel oil) just change it frequently. Not because the oil 'wears out' but just to get rid of all the nasty bye products of combustion that it's designed to hold in suspension. This is why you bung fresh oil in a motor you're laying up for a long time.
If you're getting Diablos to the edges, what more do you want?

Do you want pure track or track tyres that are capable of sensible road mileage :?:
Dunlop sportsmart, bridgestone s20 or bt016pro, michelin pilot power 2ct all get very good reveiws and are good on the road
More track biased tyres, road legal but will last as long as smack heads giro
Michelin power one, pirelli super corsa sp, dunlop 211 p racer, bridgestone r10.
Basing this info on reading lots of reveiws :?
Hope that helps

On the few track days I have done, I have not had any problems with standard D209 Dunlops.
