That thought had crossed my mind. Just annoyed that the one I bought from the states was for an M2... |

Following a low speed off about 6 weeks ago I've broken the toe peg off the rear brake pedal of my 2000 X1 Lightning and HD want an amount equivilant to the GDP of Lichtenstein for a new one. I'm not happy about having the original cast alloy part welded up as a repair so ........ does anyone have a new or good condition part surplus to requirements or can they advise where I might get one at a sensible price please? Regards Richard Did you damage the fuel tank as well ? |

I was going to make a complete new lever out of 5/16" dural plate and a bar of dural for the toe peg ( fitting a new toe peg to the existing broken casting is a no-no because the cross section at the break is too small ) but I've now managed to locate an original X1 lever at a fair price. Regards Richard Did you damage the fuel tank as well ? Thankfully not ( fuel tank is injected S3 Thunderbolt item ). I fecked the carbon fibre cover for my aftermarket "Force motor Products - Racewinder" air cleaner though and am in the process of re-skinning it with another layer of carbon fibre twill and resin. I also damaged the exhaust headers a bit and will just have to put up with this since I assume they would be hundreds of pounds to replace and my bike is a modified Millennium X1 model so I'd then need to pay out some more to get them silver ceramic coated or polished. How bad is the pedal? no reason it can't be fixed, maybe a combination of welding and pining. I'm only solihull if you need a hand, got machine tools and TIG. Also done a bit of carbon work from the wrong side like you're having to do,with care you can get an almost perfect finish. |

I have located a second hand one which I will be fitting once it arrives in the post but would have made up one from Dural plate and bar had I not been able to find one. The cross section of the toe peg / lever break is only 5/16" x 1/2" and I wouldn't want to trust my life on the integrity of a weld at this point - particularly as the cast alloy material is very granular.
