I've been in and out of this forum for a couple of years just seeing what's going on, getting some helpful info etc.
Time has come for me to look seriously now, but what is the best handling and suitable for my weekend blasts and about 6 trackdays a year?
I know I want upright stance and have ruled out the Ulysses, but will the tubers handle better than the xb's and which can take the pounding of trackdays riding.
I'm being realistic in my expectations as my current bike is a sharpened up 1200 bandit...

Not mine, but they are a nice bike to ride fast, and would be fun on track.

I was after an upright stance as I said, so 1125 is not being considered;I'm a bit old and crusty for the sports bike position.......

Have you ridden a 1125R? They are very comfortable and no where near as cramped as my other more 'mainstream' sportbikes. If you can't get on with an R, then try the sit up and beg CR variant
The 1125 is ideal for the Track.

What are the 1125s like to service? I was after the air cooled buells for their relative simplicity.....

The only drawback is rotating the motor at 12k miles for a valve clearance check, but it's not a major consideration though. Change your oil lots and clearances may not even need adjusting. If it does, then H*rley Dealers stock the shims - so they're freely available

It is mine and though I have never taken it on a track it would be great fun!

So, how old is old ?

And how many miles do you expect to do a year ?

As Adam said, the valve clearances need to be checked every 12,000 miles - so how long will it be between checks ? And you can do the spark plugs at the same time ...

Old is 52.... Only reckon on about 3000 miles p a ,still don't want to be stretched out though as I'm only 5'2"....

I'd say the only Buell worth using on trackdays would be the 1125's though .............at the end of the day they were designed with a view to racing them and they are fast enough to stay with the rest of the track day hero's on their inline 4's.

1125 is the one as everyone has already said, however if you don't mind being hammered on the straights but like to pass everyone into/through the corners then a Firebolt is the other option. Easier to work on too.

As I only track my 1200 bandit, I'm not looking for jap 4 type speed and was happy to consider the air cooled bikes...?

I'm 54, and ride a 1125R without any problems ...

... mind you, I also have a CR ...


... and to be honest, there's little maintenance to do, if you can spanner an XB I doubt if the Rotax motor will be a challenge.
