Bear in mind that the bike is 8 years old and 11k on the clock, so it could be the first ever cable change, or at the last service, the cable oil actually penetrated the whole cable.
As far as I am concerned , a cable feeling like it has stretched, says replace cable anyway , if it is the clutch primary cover, I will inspect after new cable is in place. In this case I hope I am right and you are wrong 'kevmean'. By the way are all primary covers that bad? I do use the clutch a hell of a lot to feed in revs in traffic......
