The topic say it all: why are .png images not allowed being attached to a pm?

Er... because the software doesn't allow it.

Strange question, might as well ask why Buells don't run on kerosene.

I believe admin can allow .png files if he wishes.

Yes, he can ... but the files are larger than Jpegs and we only have so much storage :)

Im more than happy to turn on the most commonly used files for folk ... to date here is a list of what's available ...

Image files

gif
jpeg
jpg
png (now enabled for Gunter!)

Text/Docs files

log
txt
xml
doc
pdf
rar (strangely, no option given for .zip)
xls

Media files

wma
wmv
3g2
3gp
m4a
m4v
mov
mp4
qt
mp3
mpeg

Real media

ram
rm

I have now enabled PNG files but if people take the piss with sizes it will be removed!

Im also open to suggestions, if anyone is having an issue or specialised file to attach, however, there is also an option for Torrents but there is no way in hell im allowing that, whilst im spannerman here!! :)

I have written in a pruning mod for attachments on the forum and once every 3 months I will prune the oldest ones if they are too big or unused, I can see how many hits each attachment has had and I will auto prune the unpopular ones and really old stuff. If anyone looks back on a thread and wants it, its author can put it back ... fair enough ... ?

Oh, and the limit for each attachment in either the forum or PM's is 2mg, I can up it in a special circumstance but for day to day posting, that should be more than enough for most folk.

If anyone is having trouble with sizes, I would be glad to resize, crop, alter and help with anything, as would some other folk on here im sure.

Tis what we are here for :)
