May get shot down in flames for this, but is it possible to make new members put in their general area or such like in their joining details ?

Most don't but I'm sure it would make things easier - it would help new members link up with existing members for social, events, help with spannering etc ...

I can quite easily add some extra script that, when joining make the location field mandatory but as GM says, its their loss. I am reluctant to start hacking the script about too much at the moment, as when the forum engine has an upgrade (it does at least once a year) it usually over writes the modded script, which means I have to site here for hours on end re doing all the mods and script, some of which may or may not be compatible with the next stable version we update too ....

Thanks for the question though, all suggestions are welcomed, this is a brand new forum and we are open to ideas etc, after all its you guys this was built for, and if something reasonable makes life easier then im all ears :)

Ash, seriously, don't do anything that is going to cause you more work and/or grief, as you and GM say, it's their loss.

The forums admin section is feature rich, we are really spoilt actually, its a shame that this isn't something that an option for me to turn on or off actually!

I have just adjusted the registration settings to make new members subject to first post approval, this will avoid spam and also avoid those just joining for personal gain!
