TT 2022

Postby t965m » Wed Jan 05, 2022 9:45 am

Watching all the stuff kicking off about hospitals and transport staffing issues - what do we think the odds are for the TT this year?

I've been supposed to be marshaling at the last two but both cancelled. I'll be gutted if it gets cancelled again. It's been on my bucket list for years - in fact it's pretty much the only thing on it ;)

Anyone got their ear close to the ground?

Hopefully with the way covid is going (getting weaker with each new strain ) it should be ok by then for us locals not sure on European travellers .
Also you might need some refresher training for marshalling since it’s been a while
ps I shall ask friend next time I see him ( most weeks) whats happing on IOM as he raced there for 30 + years and of late sponsored a rider ( with his old bike for classic TT )

BBC sound hopeful !
I hope it goes ahead but if its not going to be safe (lurgy wise) why potentially expose the islanders to it?

Yes, it is a subject I have been pondering for a while too.

By now, you would think that the I.O.M. Government would have a cut off date to make or break this event. With the continued pandemic, the logistics of spectators from all over the world arriving, the minimum number of marshals required for each session, homestay availability (and willingness) together with rider qualification eligibility are all ponderable.

The TT is a resilient event, transcribing two World Wars, it’s removal from the World Racing calender, Foot and Mouth and in 2013, massive snowfall with it’s allied disruption and road surface damage 11 weeks prior to the start of practice.

A two part I.O.M TV discussion (admittedly prior to Omicron) here

I am looking forward to the live coverage and some of the changes in race categories.

Having had the privilege of marshalling this event in the past, Clive, I sincerely hope you get your chance to experience this, whether it will be this year or not.

Depending on the elderly parent scenario, I may well you join you this year if I'm able. You'll like being a Marshal on Sector7, the locals keep you stuffed with bacon butties, cake etc lOl

Not strictly TT, but interesting to road racing fans. Also, John McGuinness podcast now on the TT website.

From the 31st March
New changes under the 'Endemic Approach'

Borders

Anyone will be allowed into the Island without testing or isolation requirements, regardless of their vaccination status.
A 'travel declaration' will still be required, but the 'landing card' application is to be scrapped.
No public health checks will be taken on arrival.
Rules will still be in place for those travelling from UK 'red list' countries which will be confirmed closer to the time.
