Crash helmet choice ?

Postby TOPGUMM » Tue Aug 02, 2022 6:40 pm

Have used Shoei helmets and prefer the clip up chinstrap rather than the double ring ones.
Any decent choices out there?
There are hundreds at the local bike place and get a bit pissed off trying to find one .
Seems to be pay for quality and at £600 i`m not sure if my pants would be pulled down.
Dont need intercom or deathly silent (Buell owner) . Any recommendations in £300 area?

Head shape, personal preference and budget all factor in. I have used Arai for years .Try finding a store with knowledgeable staff. Most good quality helmets are "adjustable " with cheek pads etc.

I've used AVG K5 & K5s models the past two purchases, £275 or thereabouts, double d lock though, but comfy mid price & you can pick up the previous models very cheap around half price.
I never undo the double d thingies, just loosen them enough to get the helmet off.
Inside lining comes out for cleaning & they are very well vented.
Personal preference is the key though.
Good luck with your search.

My last two have been HJC, double ring lock. They also have the flip down sun visor which I find great for the three days a year it is sunny!

My current road helmet is a Shoei RF900 bought from Padgett's online, new old stock still in the box with protective film on the visor all the labels and stickers included, it was on eBay at £79.00
Not faded from being displayed, a genuine old stock BNIB ........ label on strap is dated 1999 :old:

Thanks for link , but you`d have to have an obscure sized head to gain a bargain.

Why are you looking for alternatives to the Shoei? I'm on my second Shoei Neotech II, I knew it would fit my head, clip connection, flip front, good quality built in sun visor. My first one had issues with fogging up in heavy rain, but I never fitted the pinlock insert. I've put it on my latest one, it doesn't fog up, but seems to have interfered with the top seal so I get rain running down the inside, which is probably worse than having it fogging up.

I will more than likely go for the shoei , and undoing the dd strap to the end seems to work .
