Hi.

The attached file shows how a quick and simple wiring change engages BOTH headlights when on high beam.

I put together this modification together about a year ago - works well - and much better riding at night.

Is there a way to have both lights on when on low (normal) beam instead of just the one ... fed up with people telling me I have a light not working!

Ash, folks in the States switch the 12v feeds for the low beam and the middle, "euro runni ng light" (unused wire for US bikes).
I wanted both lights on at all times, but was concerned about running with the high beam always on, especially evenings/night.
I installed a headlight modulator into the wiring behind the flyscreen. The modulating (flashing) is not legal in UK, but if it were set up with its light sensor blocked, it would work well for you.

I like it because on low beam, the high beam is dimmed down to a light level equivalent to low, so the lamps do not look "asymmetrical;" on high beam, the standard low lamp is on as well as the full high beam.

Maybe someone who knows his way around a circuit board could work up a unit to do this - the system would be much simpler without the flashing and light sensor.

with my old xb12r you could just have the switch in the middle of the relay and both lights would be on :D

They both come on with a 12R anyway

yeah but you can have the high on as well - with the xbs you can both on

It is easy, but there are 2 issues: one, it uses the euro running light circuit that is unused in the US - do you use that feature on your bikes?
Second, with any oncoming traffic, you are back to the woefully inadequate single low beam - good to be seen, not good to see anything, especially after your eyes are used to having both on.
How about modifying the setup of the original post, to have a low beam wiring setup that gives you low beam lamp on and high beam on also, but through a wire with a resistor inline, to keep the high beam dimmed. Then you could always have both on.

i always though there would be an issue with night time riding ,people can get confused think your a car potentially an error on speed or distance could occure.
be careful out there.

These are a few reasons why I prefer single headlamps. :mrgreen:

I'll get something sorted one day.

Preferably a nice big 7-8" headlamp in a suitable fairing.

I will keep the original Firebolt stuff too, in case it doesn't work out. :oops: ;)
