Hello to one and all, ive been a biker for many years now and enjoyed many bikes such as the bandit 6, VN800 drifter, SV650 and just recently a R1150RT, and today ive just purchased my first all new? all black XB9SX. :dance:

Ive read afew of the forum topics and found many hints&tips for starting out on these magnificent and fun machines.

as ive now got 500m to stamp on the clock and a 250m there and back trip to Ullswater this coming weekend, can anyone offer any advice for this running in period with such a long trek ahead of me. with a coffee and pose stop half way. :eat:

Greetings, Andy, nice choice of scoot.

Everyone will give their opinion on running in, many will say to ignore the manufacturer's guide because they tried something different on their own bike and it hasn't blown up yet. However, remember 2 things.
1) The manufacturer doesn't win sales by telling you to take it easy, they are working with an engine which was, at heart, designed 60 years ago so they might have a reason for their recommendations.
2) It's your bike that you might be screwing up

So, here's my opinion. Take it easy, don't rev beyond what Buell suggests but don't labour the engine at low revs either. And don't just sit at one engine speed / load on a motorway. The running in recommendations should allow you to get up to 80-odd, make a trip of it and have some fun getting there. :yup:

Thanks Norm,

Sounds like good advice, ive also picked up an extra strong magnet to attach to the oil filter, to catch those dreaded engine fragments :)

Also been reading the latest road test reviews for this model? i think the lowest catagory score was 9/10. :clap:

this site seems pretty accurate. Note the 97/100 rating for fun for the S1. 8-)

Hey Guys, sorry it took a while getting back there, just cant seem to stay at home these days always riding.

Anyhows thanks to Norms sound advice the ullswater trek went brilliantly (No Hickups) not even the guys on there 600 sportbikes could keep up on those country lanes :twisted:

I even met up with afew HOG members at the services who couldnt keep there eyes of the buell, ill have to learn more about this beast so at least it sounds like i know what im talking about?

ill post afew piccies as soon as i figure out how to do it :(

Welcome Andy you certainly seem to have learnt the grin factor these bikes bring. :yup: We are slightly mad here but mostly harmless ;) Why not call in at deliverance a week on Saturday and meet some of the reprobated including me :lol: :lol: Its not too far from you.
