Hi, let me introduce myself, I have owned a Buell X1 Lightning and a Harley Davidson Fat Bob in the past. I am currently thinking of buying a Ulysses, trying to find one nearby to show the wife as she is concerned it may be too big for her to get on and off easily. If any members live close to Morecambe Lancashire please get in touch.
Also what is the best model year and what to look out for. Thanks in advance.

Good choice of tourer that, wife loves it. Did a long run recently with a few 8 hour days and an 11 hour one in there too...No aches or pains and no slaps across the helmet asking for a break.

It is big yes, but once your wife masters the mounting art, you'll both be laughing. (Wise-guy comments expected)

We tried a few techniques: Wife on first then slides back followed by me, which was awkward and the front tended to lift when fully loaded. Best way for us was rider on first and upright, hold steady while pillon steps up and over, dismount was rider off first then passenger slides forward and off (if you are on uneven ground, hold the bike as the front will lift)

I read in a forum somewhere that the Uly was voted the best tourer for pillon comfort, I believe this. Not sure how it stands now with the new tech and models but value for money it would be a shoe-in.

Good luck finding a decent one as they are getting few and far between.

Thanks for the advice, it's what I put the post on for . I am going to have a good look round before deciding but a Ulysses seems a likely option at the moment.

as for the dismount just do reverse order ,rider hold steady and upright , pillion stands up on pegs, lean forward slightly hands on riders shoulders then leg over to climb down and dismount .

When I ride as pillion, I am always last on the bike and first off. This allows Ade to get on and hold the bike secure and likewise hold the bike secure when I dismount. Have done this all my riding life (45 years!!)

That's how Mrs Adam does it when she doesn't fancy taking her bike. But it's usually accompanied by, 'Mind yer fekin boots on my paintwork' ........and then she sits silently

Me too Jill. With wives, girlfriends, mistresses etc But the Uly fully luggaged with tankbag, tent strapped on one pannier and bedrolls on the other is a different kettle of carp. I think it is the height more than anything, wife found it much easier to slide down on to the rider seat then step off rather than reverse mount. But yes, not level ground can make the bike less secure so care needs to be taken if ground is less than perfect.

A six foot wife would probably make it easier too
