Hi Folks,
Just got myself a 2008 reg'd 2010 Buell 1125r 8.5 thousand miles in exchange for my Triumph Daytona 955i 2007.
Thought I'd just say hello.
I live just outside Matlock in Derbyshire if anyone is around here?
Hope to post some useful stuff as I go through my mods to this superb bike.
Thanks for posting manuals etc very handy indeed.
This forum looks a lot better than the American ones & much more useful for Brits with Buells.
Good luck with your bikes everyone.
Paul.

Thanks folks,

Really nice welcome.

Yes, Exhaust & ECU flash first items on the agenda.

What a power plant though. It's such a shame it's strangled into submission by the exhaust.

Had a 900 Firebolt couple of years ago, loved the frame & took me 3 months of obsessive fiddling to get it handling correctly, but it really handled when sorted, unfortunately the engine wasn't great power wise although Erik B did a fantastic job of squeezing as much as he could get out of it.

This has the same frame "almost" so looking forward to tweaking it to my weight & style of riding & have experience of the end results from the Firebolt.

I'll post anything interesting during the tuning period ahead of me, should be able to get this undeveloped lump to rev it's nads off nice & freely & propel me to whatever it becomes capable of. I have very high hopes for this bike.

Thanks again folks for the welcome. Very nice of you.

You’ll have a number of suggestions for exhausts but I’d steer you towards APH of this parish :yup:

He is a Buell owner and all round master welder who creates works of art. We have them on Magz’ X1 and SX - they are stunning.

This may be of interest http://www.aph-performance-engineering. ... ystem.html

And no, I’m not on commission :rotfl:

APH pipes are absolute top quality, you won't find better. In defence of the original pipe, it actually produces quite good power with its clever design but it will rot internally. I opened mine up and it was quite bad inside. Welcome to the Forum 8-)

Thanks again folks,

Really appreciate the advice.

Probably going to have a go at designing my own exhaust to be honest.

Just have to work out how to tune the ECU.

I'm used to Triumph's & Tune ECU which was really very easy & maps were freely available from, mainly other Triumph owners within triumphtorque owners club.

Anyone familiar with the tuning of these ECU's.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks again for the great welcome.

Paul.

Welcome Paul,
Nice looking bike, Matlock is a fine area they used to have some big bike meets there I suppose it still happens?

Yeah,

Matlock Bath has a few hundred bikes per day every weekend usually, I stay away most of the time as the Coppers are always about looking for modded exhausts & small No. plates etc. Petty & Easy targets I guess but cost you 3 points a time.

There is a layby on the A6 on the way to MB from the Belper or A38 direction where the more serious bikers meet & chat, I go there usually but you still sometimes get the cops there although they're a bit more friendly at this point as we aren't popping wheelies up & down the main drag in MB ha ha.

I'll be interested in their reaction to me rolling up on my buell 1125r, No-one ever looked at my Firebolt 900, seems Buells are a definite keeper bike for a few people who like things a bit off kilter.

This 1125 was the only bike that could have dragged my pants off my Daytona 955i here's a pic to show you why.

Had a 50 mile ride on the Buell last night on motorway & town riding. Apart from low rev "hunting" under 4,000 revs & being a complete pig in traffic, it seems to run ok at over 4,000. The exhaust seems to be ok between 4,000 & 8000 & above apart from a bit of stifling, but low down it is a real pain.
Have a harley dealer in Nottingham "where the bike originated" so gonna see if the latest Bue2d can be flashed before starting with anything else. I think mine must be the Zd version by the way it runs low down.
If the Harley dealer can flash the ECU to the latest version, I'll be happy to ride it for a while before trying anything else.
Thanks for your help brothers, I'll let you know how it goes.

Not too far away from you in Glossop. Got a couple of H D style Buells. We always say all roads lead to Matlock. Even peddled there down the Ashbourne rd to new haven and down through via gellier. Those rotax engined bikes are a different animal altogether. With the emphasis on animal. :yup:

Thanks again folks, a really nice welcome to the forum.

I'll keep posting as & when stuff gets done.

Got to say though, apart from low down running, this 1125r is a massively impressive machine.

Went down to the Layby on the A6 outside Matlock & no-one was interested in the Buell.

I like the fact that these 1125r's & Buells in general aren't really recognised for what they are.

I get the impression that people don't like them that much. I can't think why?

Ride safe & stay between the hedgerows.
