Post subject:  Should I buy a buell
Hi guys I currently ride a Harley and have seen a buell at the right price on the web, should I buy one? What are they like to live with? Spares?
Any help and advice would be great.

looks clean & tidy Andy :yup:
i used to have one , handles real sharp was Bike magazines best handling bike back in the day :mrgreen:
wheelies well too :shock:
lots more oomph compared to a Sportster.. :sun:
the 10,000 mile HD service is a big expense :ill: , unless you DIY or go independent specialist :maz:

1. it could do with a freespirits belt tensioner , spring loaded saves the drive belt :yup:
2. wheel bearing do need keeping an eye on , as they are small spec for lightweight
rather than long life .
3 a Maz nipple mod on the gearbox output bearing is handy too
easy to fit just helps to keep the output bearing lubed , it can get a bit dry if the bike is stood on the sidestand long term, the XB range don't have the trap door to access the gear box that earlier Buells & Sportsters have , so if the bearing fails , you have to remove the barrels to split the main cases :headbang: bean counters in engineering :roll:
the front & rear spindles are hollow , they need copperslip , the front is a L/H thread,IF they are over torqued , you can crush the aluminium spacer , that also helps to fuck the wheel bearings
so don't let numpties fit your tyres...

Hi Andy welcome to the forum.
Excellent handling bike when set up properly. Feel very neutral at speed (like there is nothing beneath you), it's a really nice feeling. Great for "B" road twisty blasting & lane riding & comfy on long rides. Better with a Race ECM & double outlet silencer & the other mods people have mentioned. The bars feel weird till you get used to them as they are forward mounted on the yokes by about 3cms which puts you over the front wheel more than usual bikes with very sharp turning. Mine did 144mph which is stunning for this kind of bike although it took a while to get there.

I thought that might be the case, not sure if I can live with the difficulty of scarce parts, I guess the rare ones are the ones everybody wants and needs.

There are also a few good people who deal in used Buell parts, I pick up spares as I go along for mine as I don't mind using second hand parts, mainly from Ebay & the links to people therein. Its pretty amazing what you can pick up in great condition. If you want stuff in a Buell wrapper brand new, you're gonna pay top whack from anywhere.

I am fighting with Harley-Davidson at the moment about a brake issue with the Xg750a model, brake recall completed now both front callipers leaking, not in the best of moods to buy a bike I guess.
