The whole knife thing is a bit scary. A farmer got done up here for carrying a folding pocket knife that he used to cut bailing twine etc. He was taken to court, the full monty - feels like some people are losing the plot and taking the easy option by targeting the wrong people.

In court he said he'd always been pro Police but had now lost all faith in them and the court system. Anyone with half a brain cell can tell the difference between someone carrying a working blade and a weapon with intent. Can't they?

I always check my pockets now in case I walk out with a 'weapon'. Seems kinda weird as I've carried a pocket knife since my old grandad gave me my first at 10, 'carry a knife and save a life' he always said......... Progress I guess

I carry a small Swiss Army pen knife with me everywhere, and have done ever since a boy. It's used several times a day, and the edge gets polished with a leather strop and toothpaste regularly.
I gave my last one away to a Porter while walking out from a climb in the Himalayas in 1984, and this was replaced with the one I have now.
It's been taken off me after being arrested (on totally different issues ) and then returned when released from the Nick. The Coppers were totally reasonable about it when they realised they weren't dealing with a modern day Jack The Ripper and that it only carried as a tool (....and probably by a tool )

I thought I wasn't going to be able to attend this year: haven't spent much time with Jackie for several weekends now for entirely innocent reasons so I was going to have some 'quality time' with her this weekend. Instead she has insisted that I go to D4. Hoorah for that!

So I shall have to find a tent.
