As a new member I have seen the main UKBEG meets and wonder whether there are ever any more localised ride outs - I am in Reading in Berks. with Wilts., Hants., Oxon, Surrey & London etc. all in easily travel distances for a single (or part) day out. As I am in retail I can only really make Sundays as Saturday is a busy day for me - is this something other members already do or are interested in doing? I would say at this stage it would for me depend on a good forecast though!! Any info would be much appreciated especially with the 'summer' on the way?? |

The laws of UKBEG cat herding dictate that you'll have to suggest a date and venue (or meeting point) and see who responds. If you can only do Sundays that are sunny, then you may have a lonely summer. Check out the events section, or suggest a venue or route. There are plenty of Buellers within 50 miles of you, some will travel further for a good lunch. |

Try to get to a couple of meets first - people seem to be a bit more proactive once they know you - normally there will be someone else going in the same general direction that you can meet up with. Personally I'm not over keen on riding in groups, but a couple of other bikes are OK. But then again I'm a captain slow ... A couple of years ago we did try to get a meet together in the Reading area - but it died of apathy - problem is trying to find a date, time and venue agreeable to all. But it never hurts to post an event up and wait for a response ... |

The thrill of riding in a disciplined pack is one that all should experience at least once. Many years ago, in a universe that seems far far away, there was a gathering of American cars and bikes at a Burger King in Guildford on the first(?) Sunday of every month. A group of ten or so M2s S1s and X1s (for Fuellers had yet to appear) would descend en masse at the culmination of a thrash around the Surrey/ Hants/ Sussex lanes often via Bury Hill, Box Hill and Newlands Corner etc. We knew each other's riding styles and we trusted each other; there were no heroics, no surprise overtakes and no attempts to outdo each other. The noise had to be heard to be believed; it was like close-formation Spitfire flying....and I, for one, miss those days... Norm, Kev, Betty, G, Roy, Garry, Tim, German George, and others whose names escape me,.... happy days! How about a re-run soon? PS Who was that uber Iti who rode in sneakers? And that guy with the 'Duracell' S1? And whatever happened to G? |

Happy Jack! Where's Happy Jack and his lovely Duracell S1 now? |

The Italian was Claudio, the Duracell S1 was Jack's (as you remembered) and the last I heard of G, he gave up motorbikes after a friend he was riding with hit a tree at 30 on the Embankment after a ped walked out in front of them. Ali was a regular, as well. |

Have been known to do the Swan Inn at Pangbourne for sunny Sunday lunches 2 or 3 times a year (need to get there by 12 to get a riverside seat!). Usually after morning coffee at Bell Inn Wantage. Good run down to Hungerford (watch out for deer) into Wiltshire from there and back up into Glos for a relaxed 150 miler. Could give you a nod when we are next over that way. |
